In as little as 10 weeks 30 minutes daily practice of Ba Duan Jin has led to significant improvements in both physical and cognitive health domains among the older adults. Results of a U.S. trial suggests that even a relatively short period of Ba Duan Jin practice can result in positive health changes. After the 10-week exercise, the intervention group showed significant improvements in overall health, sleep, fatigue and cognitive functions including memory.
The improvements observed in the study confirmed results of previous studies. For example, multiple systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials have identified Ba Duan Jin qigong’s benefits including improving cognitive function, enhancing muscle strength, balance, and cardiorespiratory fitness, as well as reducing falls and pain. Also previous studies have demonstrated that Ba Duan Jin has a higher effect on sleep improvement than general aerobic exercise.
